Choosing gear for a 4-6 month long distance hike is a bit daunting, and many hikers debate on and off the trail about which gear is the best - whether it be the best ultralight option or the most functional. For over a year before the trail, I've done a ton of research on every item to make the smartest decisions for my trek. I'm by no means a Ultralight hiker, but I did try to choose the lightest gear possible, while still being durable and efficient. Here are all my picks for my PCT thru-hike:
